Waiting for the Coach

I am SO sorry I didn’t make it to the award ceremony for Manga Jiman. I hadn’t won anything myself, but I was really looking forward to meeting the people who did, and talk to the contributors to Leek and Sushi, and hand them the books!

I dragged a bag full of books all the way down to the busstop, waited an hour, and then had to drag it all the way back up because it turned out the coach was stuck on the wrong side of the Severn, and was never going to make it in time for me to attend the party. The jam my coach was in actually made the news, so that’s something.

To make up for my disastrous non-attendance, I tried to post the books to the contributors, and the first set of orders, as soon as possible. It took until Tuesday morning to send them all, though, as there were slightly more orders and packages than I anticipated:

Leek and Sushi packaged up

But now, they’re all on their way, and will hopefully make the recipients happy when they arrive. Feel free to use the comments section here as improptu customer review space or other outbursts.

Thanks all for your patience, and once again, I’m sorry I didn’t make it.

Leek and Sushi's Manga show

Leek and Sushi's Manga show

Itch has a new book out, already?

Yes!

And it’s 204 pages?

Uh-huh!

Yours truly, editor/publisher Willie Hewes is proud Leek & Sushi’s Manga Show: 150 Years of Friendship! It’s a nice fat anthology collecting short manga by some most excellent artists.

Please visit the book’s page for full details and information on how to get your own copy.

The manga in this collection were drawn around the theme of “150″, to celebrate the 150 years of peace and friendly relations between the UK and Japan.

Special note: these manga were drawn to enter into a contest held by the Japanese Embassy in London, the Manga Jiman contest. However, for diplomatic reasons, the Embassy has not been in any way involved in the production or publication of the book.

Full details here.

Hurray, the winners of the Manga Jiman competition have been announced by the Japanese embassy.

You can read about all the lucky people here: winners Manga Jiman.

I’m not among them, but I’m very excited on behalf of some of my friends, including Karen Rubins, who is a runner up! Quite a few of the runners up have also agreed to be part of the anthology I’m pulling together, which will come out early next year (hopefully just in time for the award ceremony).

Anyone out there who entered Jiman and who wants to be in the anthology: there is still (very little) time. Mail me at: itch@itchpublishing.com if you’re interested.
