Leek & Sushi’s Manga Show

Leek & Sushi's Manga Show CoverLeek and Sushi have long been friends, and to celebrate, they’ve invited the UK’s most talented mangaka to show their stuff.

This is a collection of short manga by 21 artists and writers, created to celebrate 150 years of friendship between the UK and Japan.

Leek & Sushi’s Manga Show is a 200 page overview of the UK manga scene today. It contains a great variety of styles and stories, and each short manga is introduced by a chat between Leek & Sushi and the artist. Through their random comedy interviews you get an idea of what the artists and writers are like, and where else you can find their work.

What people say:

“The 15 artists represented here do the UK proud, and if you’re at all interested in the manga scene here, bag a copy. … Certainly, if you ever thought that western manga was ’second best’, we’d urge you to swallow your words after taking a look at what Leek and Sushi has to offer.” Amanda Young, NEO Magazine

“I’ve re-read the book three times since it arrived on Friday and the one thing that strikes me is that it is near impossible to choose the “best” strip herein. The scripts and art are of good enough standard to call them pro and if Itch continues to put together books like this I can’t see them failing! … This is a top notch book.” Terry, Comic Bits Online

“… the transition between sketches have been made very smooth by the insertion of Leek & Sushi, who are easily the highlights of the anthology. The pair interjects a unique brand of humour between sketches and manages to open up the anthology in an interesting and different fashion without appearing boring.” Ian Brown, News Anime UK

Can’t think of anything particularly intelligent or constructive to write, but I gotta say Leek and Sushi are so cool! ^_^

You get a lot of comics, in a lot of different styles, for your money. It’s really nice to see the variety that’s out there. The in between sections that show the banter of Leek and Sushi are my favourite part of the book however. It just raises the fun level so much as you work your way through – recommended! :D

This is such a fun book to read – not only does it have a great variety of art and storytelling, it’s also got the funniest introductions I’ve ever read in a comic book. Leek and Sushi make a perfect duo and the individual care and attention to each story works very well. I thoroughly enjoyed it ^^

A incredibly imaginative and fun spin on an anthology. The short stories were really enjoyable, as is of course needed, but on top of this the presentation of the book was fantastic. In between each short we are able to enjoy hilarious banter between the anthology’s ‘hosts’ Leek and Sushi, who both stand well on their own as a charismatic and fun read, but are also used to introduce each comic and it’s creators. Well worth buying! My only criticism was that the copy I received had a bit of a printing mishap halfway through the book, but it doesnt ruin the comic much, and newest copies of the book I assume won’t have the same problem!

All the stories (except for three of them…) are exceptional and deserve to be presented in the book. They all covered a range of styles, and themes which really shows the diversity in Manga/comics. It would have been the nice of the actually book was of better quality (the pages were good but the cover was flimsy) but it’s the comics that are important.

Oh and Leek and Sushi are the best! It gives this book a whole new dimension and grealt differs from other anthologies…it’s like they have their own story going on…which they sort of do. I mean they could do a spin off! CSI: Leek and Sushi, Law and Order: Leek and Sushi…

The book is really amazing to be honest and it was one of the first anthology that I bought from ITCH! The mini-intros for each of the comics were funny, I laughed histerically at each of them, there were some interesting plots that made me smile but most of all they left me very inspired.
