Urban Beasts

Urban Beasts CoversIn Urban Beasts, an anti-vivisection rally stirs up trouble and Caipora decides to check it out, while a computer enthusiast has a disturbing experience in a goth club; all the clubbers have suddenly turned into moths!

What people say:

“From superb cover to last page it’s a quality item.” Terry Hooper – Comic Bits

“… a promising introductory chapter and I eagerly await the rest of the series.” Vicki, Comic Mole Investigates

“Scripting duties by Daniel and Anna have produced a very good first issue with tight dialogue and a very interesting tale to tell.” John Douglas, Amateur Comics Guild

“Where “Dark” was an arthouse comic, rooted in the poetic rather than the narrative, “Urban Beasts” is a much more accessible book, and the higher production values on it mean that with very little polish it could fit pretty neatly into the Vertigo stable. Not that it needs to, you understand – it’s a perfectly lovely comic, sitting where it is.” Nixsight

“The humour is witty, and there is just enough of it to keep the whole comic flowing. One particular panel made me laugh out loud, something which a rarely do with manga. The artwork is a genuine pleasure to look at, special care and attention has been given to the two front covers, and inside each dynamic panel is packed with character.” Anime Picks

I enjoyed these comics – the concept of seeing people with their animal heads and seeing them behave according to their associated animal is an amusing one, and is used to good effect. I’m looking forward to reading more ^^

Urban Beasts is a comic with a brilliant premise. The heroine is able to assume animal spirits that match those of the people around her, allowing her to get through situations by communicating with their basic animal instincts and needs. It’s a clever concept and combined with confidently sketchy, expressive artwork and very witty dialogue.
It’s inventive, funny and original with some brilliant twists and subtle satire. Well worth a look.
