Lady’s in Interest

by voxie on 19 June 2009

Just some ladies immersed in themselves, as we can get at times. I have been trying to develop a style for a comic idea I’ve been faffing about with. Drawn straight with fineliner, and the 2nd in Bic. I really must move back to pencil again. Ignore the bad fingers and sorta black eye ^^;;

I'm An Engineer, no, Consultant!

I’ve got a friend who hates getting strange looks when she introduces herself, and her job, to new people. She’s a technical engineer. Saying that sometimes gets her a strange look, because it sounds like more of a man’s job. (She said it not me!) So she’s starting to call herself a technical consultant instead…
I [...]

Gasping for Breadth

by voxie on 17 June 2009

(click for bigger ver.)
Seriously getting bored with what I’ve been drawing lately… Trying new poses and characters! (Hence the title, lol)
I saw a middle-aged African woman walk passed me the other day, she was wearing this lovely shawl. It gave her a traditional, almost religious allure. I wish I could remember the pattern on it. [...]

Bassist Didn’t Once Smile

by voxie on 16 June 2009

The other day (30th May) a couple of bands came to play at my games shop! They came to support our launch day for Guitar Hero Metallica. The bands were Tyrannosaurus Alan (an all-boy Cockney ska band), and The Berettas (an all-girl rock/metal band). Boths acts were great, and performed very [...]

Especially in the mornings before everyone goes to work! I mean, c’mon it’s the start of the day! Call me an optimist, but I can’t help but force myself to not look miserable amidst these grey London crowds, just to help set an example and give out an aura of “It’s not [...]

Inspired by Aoin Music

Inspired by Aoin Music

Moar straight to paper with Bic ballpointy pen attacks! (click on last two for bigger ver.)
Lately I’ve been listening loads to Aion’s music, while working on commissions. It’s a game not even available in the West yet, but the soundtrack is so beautiful, I might have to try it out.
Anyway, the soundtrack inspired this [...]

Butterfly Elf & Big Guns

by voxie on 13 June 2009

Butterfly Elf & Big Guns

Another couple examples of very fast Bic ballpoint penning. With the top pic, I felt that something was leaving me. Like someone or something important is missing. I’m still not sure what it is… maybe just inspiration, in general. What better way to deal with that, than draw it. Thus make inspiration out of no [...]

Less Pose, More Style

by voxie on 12 June 2009

Less Pose, More Style

I can’t actually remember the last time I drew a character keeping in mind his/her clothes fashion… Which is really disappointing, because I love clothes!
I’m still drawing straight with pen btw, a black Bic ballpoint pen again (they’re always in reach of me, wherever I go!), so excuse me for the inky mess… ^^;

Hado–

Hado--

–Ken. Ish!
On with the dynamic flexibility, too busy/lazy? to do pose fore-thinking, go-go-gah attitude!
Though I tell you now, here posting this 7 days later, that my steam does run out eventually… ^^;
(Scribbled with a Bic.)

Less Pose, More Flex

by voxie on 10 June 2009

Less Pose, More Flex

Less pose as in, well, less “trying” for the usual poses with my drawings. It can be so boring, and just a little frustatrating if I can’t get a pose right in the first place. And when I do end up with the pose right, it sometimes seems too stiff. Away with boring poses I [...]

See Ya Pumpkin

by voxie on 9 June 2009

See Ya Pumpkin

When staying at Rodney Bay beach, it had its fair share of touters – People trying to sell the unaware tourist all kinds of things, from baskets made from local palm tree leaf, paintings, and jet ski rides to massage services and  cannabis (which is also illegal over there as it is here). But there [...]

Goodbye Saint Lucia

by voxie on 8 June 2009

Goodbye Saint Lucia

Just a very quick sketch of me and Lucy going into to town at Rodney Bay, to pick up souvenirs for family and friends. We didn’t leave on this day, but we were preparing to. Lucy was really looking forward to getting home. We had truly done a lot here, it had begun feeling more [...]

Holiday Scare: Fish Eyes Attack!

I found a new hobby in Saint Lucia – Snorkeling. Especially awesome first thing in the morning, when the sea is calmer, and the fish are out more.
So I went snorkelling alone, only about 5 metres off shore, where there is a little reef. I was amazed that it was so shallow, so close to [...]

School Girls at Castries

by voxie on 6 June 2009

School Girls at Castries

Still in Saint Lucia: We took a mini bus from Rodney Bay to the Castries, a large shopping district with schools, lots of mini pubs and apparently, a large Duty Free shopping mall. The shopping mall was our main aim, but we totally missed it, getting off at the wrong stop, and circling around the [...]

Mosquito Helicopters - I am the Landing Bay

As I kept wafting mosquitoes away while reading a book in my hotel room, I had a random image of my body as a sort of hairy landscape/city thing, and the mosquitoes were helicopters, arriving on the scene to pick up the goods (my blood!).
So Lucy got the sun burn. I was the mosquitoes’ feast [...]

Sunburnt – Dammit

by voxie on 4 June 2009

Sunburnt - Dammit

By the fourth day we were in Saint Lucia, my holiday buddy Lucy, was peeling! She also said “dammit!” a lot. (This is her.)  I did warn her to use sunscreen and repeat, but she was ignorant on getting herself dark brown. She would also spend more time on the lounger than in the sea, [...]

We’re Flowers to the Sun

by voxie on 3 June 2009

We're Flowers to the Sun

I know it’s stating the obvious, but I find it a little fascinating how the sun can change the mood in you. Perhaps that’s why the British are reputed for being miserable – We just don’t get enough of those rays of nature?
Pencilled on Rodney Bay beach, on a lounger just outside my hotel room. [...]

If I weren't here, I'd be working and...

I’d probably look like this!
Still in Saint Lucia, I thought about working back home in the games shop, and thinking if I had to miss being on this beach, my face might look like this… lol
Real point of the sketch, I guess, is to appreciate the moment. And think about the kind of moments we [...]
